Anemia

Anemia is a condition caused by a deficiency of red blood cells in the blood that can bring about symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, general malaise, shortness of breath, among other concerns. Some anemia is a result of an inadequate diet that lacks good sources of vitamin B12, iron and folate. Individuals diagnosed with anemia should consider incorporate the following foods into their diet:

  • Good sources of B12 – poultry, shellfish, eggs & dairy
  • Good sources of folate – dark green leafy vegetables and liver
  • Good sources of iron – meat, seeds and nuts, tofu, beans, lentils, and whole grains.
